“Our big surprise for Nov2k 2014 on Science fiction is out: Kathryn Myronuk – a true Science fiction researcher! We are looking forward to what you tell us is going to happen to humans and our technologies in the future.”
Kathryn Myronuk has a career in the usual role of an academic generalist, seeking to facilitate and find new insights that come from interdisciplinary groups and research activities. Her study began by retrieving two degrees in the different fields of Zoology and Economics, but as a founding staff member at Singularity University and as Faculty Lead for Synthesis and Convergence, she has led efforts in the building of a new school which deliberately shifts its student and participants from one field to another on an hour by hour basis. The participants are charged with creating new ideas based on those connections, focusing on global grand challenges.
She was lead researcher for the groundbreaking book “The Singularity is Near” which covered the convergence of computing with many other fields such as genetics, manufacturing, robotics and medicine; and also the bestseller “Abundance” which painted the story of the potential of these disciplines to have major positive effect on the world. She has worked with Singularity university participants in all six of the 10-week summer programs and helped guide multi-disciplinary teams which have gone on to major VC funding and presentations on the TED stage.
She has spoken on the value of convergence and the insights of the smart newcomer in the USA, Germany, Sweden, Estonia and Great Britain, and consulted for organisations like the Orange Institute, The Institute for the Future, and Singularity University clients like UNICEF, Hershey’s and others.
